Can pit depth be reduced?

Some modern MRL and home elevators offer reduced pit depths (150-300mm). However, reducing below manufacturer specifications is not permitted by safety codes.

What is the minimum pit depth for different elevator types?

Home hydraulic: 150-300mm, Passenger (1.0 m/s): 1200mm, Passenger (1.75 m/s): 1500mm, High-speed (2.5+ m/s): 1800-2000mm.
